Wearing Red at the Swedish Christmas Fair :)

I completely forgot that Sunday was Christmas fair, to the point where we ended up missing all performances (what can I say, sleeping till the afternoon is my Sunday vice). I still decided to go, though, because unlike in Finland where there are similar fairs every weekend, this was a one day event and if I missed it I'd probably spend all Christmas regretting it.

And I was right to! There were so many familiar items and decorations that I'm used to being around at Christmas time. Most of the participants spoke Swedish amongst each other, especially the church members (of Church of Sweden). I do regret missing the raffle though. Instead yobo had some pea soup (always better than American attempts), while I got a cup of glorg (it was a very cold rainy day). I wondered at the price, and then I realized that it wasn't really glorg as in the juice, but it was liquor (I'm somehow used to being carded for those...I guess I must be looking old)! So after a few sips I went and got myself a plate of cookies and cake to help drink it down in the middle of the afternoon LOL

Romeo & Juliet cardigan, 2Bbebe tunic dress, Cotton On leggings, Nine West flats, Rocawear purse, random belt
While there I also saw spike mats that I coveted last Christmas...! They have a store in Beverly Hills that sells them! I think I may just get myself one for stress relief...more on this product later.

Did you go to any Christmas Fairs this year?

My fake perm

My hair's been dry lately. In fact, everything's been feeling kind of dry lately.  I blame the heater, who blames the weather, who blames the season, who blames...__________.  So because it's cold I still have to blow dry my hair, which is awful and I've avoided it as much as I could all summer (hence my shiny hair) AND it's been so dry that I ran out of hair treatment o_o; This means that I don't want to use my hair straightener if it can be helped.

Coldness, dryness and lazyness.

Anyway, so I've been braiding my hair to see what results I can get. Usually I just get wavy hair in the morning, but I figured people must be getting their curls another way, and I tried braiding my hair real tight while slightly wet and this morning I accomplished my fake perm:

Of course these pictures were taken at the end of the day, 12 hours after I opened my braids so you can imagine how wavy and poofy it was in the morning o.o I even tied it up at some point 'cause I felt like I had an afro, a FLAT afro. How sad is that?

I really wanted to wear my comfy gray heels but I couldn't seem to imagine it working for me with these slacks so I switched to these pointy heels, which I hear are in this winter (oddly enough), and people seem to like everything but my shoes LOL
Perry Ellis boy's blazer jacket, MaxStudio top, F21 slacks, F21 white patent belt

You know actually I wore this top like over a month ago with a different blazer and slacks and wanted to show you how it looks but I never got around to it because I forgot to take pictures o.o Even today I was all ready to undress when I remembered to take these photos quickly.  This outfit doesn't do this top justice since it's more of a babydoll style and it has a sash to tie it up with (which some coworkers commented as looking like a tail since it hung under my blazer).

"BOY"-friend blazer
And if you wonder about how I raided the boy's section for blazers instead of just buying a "boyfriend blazer", which has a similar shape, well, how did this boyfriend blazer trend come about? From women stealing their boyfriends' blazers? I think it makes sense if you date a petite man, or a really skinny man, or just a man of a similar size as you, but I'll have you know that I have worn yobo's blazer before when I got cold and it is not flattering. It's like trying on a football jersey or something since it's so wide and large.

Boy's Blazer vs BOYFRIEND blazer
I was told today that my blazer is nice because it's so "loose", in that the upper arms are loose and the sides are loose, etc. so that I can actually lift my arms and do stuff as if I were not wearing a blazer at all (have you seen men try to pick up and move stuff with their blazers on? it's hilarious to watch).  You'll notice when you wear boyfriend blazers designed for women that they are very well tailored, which I suppose is fine if you want it that way, but it means that the upper arms, or at least the lower arms, are very tight.  The waist will be smaller so if you button up it fits almost like a normal blazer. Or, worse yet, the blazer hangs like a box o.o;; Which is my number one concern when it comes to Romeo & Juliet boyfriend blazers

Oh, and before I leave you, I'll share my attempt at masculinity:

For the wasted summer dress

My summer dress was worn a total of two times this summer. Of course this may have something to do with my poor planning skills in that I don't "prepare" for the season like some people do. I kind of forget about the whole thing until I am reminded, and then I buy the closest thing to my ideal or whatever great deal I find. This dress was a pretty good deal, I remember it being about $12 at H&M along with other basics which they claimed they would continue selling but clearly no longer have up on their racks. -_-;

Please ignore the make up-less me. I overslept and was planning on going to class like whatever, but I ended up un-braiding my hair (waviness!) and wearing actual oxfords instead of these pink floral Old Navy sandals that I wear in the house. ;P

H&M summer dress, Old Navy tank top, Cotton On leggings, Romeo & Juliet fishnet sweater ($15!), and belt that no one wanted to buy from me so I'm utilizing again :)

And so today was actually my last lab class, meaning I just have two lectures left on Wednesday and I am DONE! yaaaay~~~ Hopefully I'll actually pass all my classes so that I can get my degree and be done with school for as long as possible :) Or you know, until I feel motivated (again).

Thanksgiving Thursday's the only Thursday in the year we don't have to Work (Raising Hope)

Happy Thanksgiving~! Though I've never internalized Thanksgiving as a holiday I celebrate, when in Rome do as the Romans do so the past few years I have attempted to celebrate Thanksgiving. I hope you all enjoyed the day off as much as me (OT compensation was not enough to convince me to go in today) as I slept until noon for a full ten hours + :)

I enjoyed some wine and dark chocolate last night so I woke up with a headache (ugh) but given that all I did was organize a little, cross off a few things off my  to do list and updated my blog sale (5 new entries!) I think today's been a success.

Not to mention the reservations we made to this steakhouse downtown :) Last year we went to Marie Callender's and it was alright, but not great, which is how I imagine going out to eat should be like. Plus I love dressing up and I felt sooooo overdressed at Marie Callender's last year. We went to Nick & Stef's, which was tasty, I'm sure their steaks are even better, but I just didn't like the atmosphere much. Our waiter was not the nicest, though I have to admit the manager is wonderful, and the whole set up was like a hotel reception from the 60s (not my favorite era).

H&M knit dress, Romeo & Juliet cardigan, Miss Me 4" heels

I really had planned on just wearing the dress, but I'm glad I brought the cardigan! It was quite chilly in the restaurant, I guess they didn't want men to have to take off their blazers or something...
On my face:
Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse (honey beige)
Revlon Color Stay foundation
Korrs Bronzing Powder (deep warm)
120 palette: light light yellow as a highlighter,
sparkly wine red on the lids,
and glitter dark brown on the corners)
L'oreal Wear Infinite (deep mocha)
Sephora ultra shine gloss (30)
Lavera (organic) mascara
Lavera (organic) eyeliner
I.D. Mineral Veil (translucent)

See how the top of my forehead is darker? ...That does not show w/o flash and I didn't even notice! The reason for that is that I am mixing two foundations together to get a better match ._.;  Haven't mastered it yet...

Enjoy the holidays if you have any! I'm going back to work tomorrow and Saturday ._.;;;

a little SOFT on a cold and dreary Saturday

Before yobo got back I got so sick of not shopping (not entirely true, during the three weeks he was away I purchased a vintage wallet--that I haven't shown you yet!) so I made a bulk order (free shipping~~~) from the $15 store. I had planned on ordering with friends, but really? I mean I can find enough items for just me so it's alright....lol
Romeo & Juliet Double Breasted Army Sweater, Tart leggings, Aldo boots

...These are not great pictures, because...well...I was running late in the morning (as usual), and I figured that with the cloudy/rainy weather it wouldn't make a difference in lighting anyway. Plus I am not going to take outdoor pictures in the rain (anyhoo) so I took these at the end of the day (night).

I'll show you the rest of my bulk order as I wear them, I'm not really into showing you my "hauls", I don't think it means much if I never wear the piece, or end up giving it away (or returning it!). In a nut shell I bought a cardigan, a rabbit fur vest, two sweaters (I thought three but I made a mistake...maybe I need to put in another order...?), a coat, riding paints (I shouldn't have assumed that my weight gain put me at Medium...I regret not getting small) and a pair of heels (which looked so much better in pictures but oh well). It just shows that you should always know the brand before you buy it online, because I don't regret any of my Romeo & Juliet purchases (5 out of 7) since I already know what the quality's like, but I should have done more research on the other two brands.

...I will show you, however, the earrings I'm wearing :) I'm really satisfied with this purchase:
F21 earrings for about $4.50
I'm wearing the pair on the bottom left.

Oh and if you wondered, it turns out I didn't really like the coat I got by Tulle, I like the color and everything but evidently it doesn't suit me (said yobo). I might go hunting for another one if it gets any colder (it probably will). I want to buy another Miss Sixty coat, but this time in black. I would consider Steve Madden. Perhaps. What do you think? Those Forever 21 coats were nice too...

What to wear to a Job Interview?

These past couple of days I've had job interviews lined up, hence why I haven't posted any outfit pictures, but then I thought to myself maybe I should post what I wear so I can get some tips!  Maybe what I wear is not professional enough, or not satisfactory, so I thought I would share what I wore the past two days to see if any of you could help me out, and maybe those of you who are in a similar predicament as me could indulge in the same advice.

On Thursday I went to a "business" office and I actually had my hair up but I took these pictures at night time afterward so excuse the strange atmosphere and lack of feeling (I was sleepy and really really full from dinner on Friday).
Old Navy gray trousers, white shirt, Theory blazer, cream kitten heels

Friday I went to an interview at a bank and I left my hair down (didn't care) which turned out to be a good idea because the office environment (not the counter, but the corporate building) was business casual.

So what do you think? What do/did you wear for your job interview?

Thursday, May 27

The sun is a sham when you're tormented by gales.

Today, much like the last few days, I always wake up cold.  Our house evidently doesn't warm up till the afternoon, and even then it's not exactly hot (I'm always wearing a sweatshirt). This means I have no idea what the temperature outside is (I need a thermometer) and I don't have time to check my netbook the way I used to check my desktop (after leaving it on all night).  So yesterday and the day before I thought it was hot because it was sunny but it turned out to be really windy and cold. I almost got a flu on Monday because our campus is on a hill and it's really really windy and I have classes in the science colleges which always have their ac booming on high (we in the liberal arts building like to keep it moderate, maybe we're more eco-conscious?)
F21 navy jacket; Aeropostale striped knit sweater in pink & gray; Old Navy tank top; Joe's Jeans cropped jeans; jazz shoes

...So don't laugh at my three-layer outfit. Honestly I didn't wear the jacket most of the time so it wasn't that bad. I just wanted to see how it would feel to wear these cropped jeans without boots. Oh, and the way I recycle pieces for outfits is kind of random. Where we used to live I would hang clothes that didnt need washing up so I'd know that I've worn them already and should wear them again so I can wash them, and this would also prevent outfit-repeating, but now I haven't worked out a system yet. I really should. I've read about bloggers with all sort of systems, what with hanging clothes and moving them (doesn't work for me, yobo hangs his clothes all over the place (if at all) and prevents any sense of order). How do you prevent outfit repeats?
