Style Watch: My Girlfriend is a Gumiho KRN drama (SPOILERS)

I watched this new Fall 2010 Korean drama, My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox in 2 days, well, maybe it was 3...but that's just how good it is! I highly recommend it, not just because the story is good, but also because they are wearing the latest trends!

And I just have to point this out: can you tell that the lead actress is the same in both pictures? Because I have seen both actors in several dramas previously and I could not recognize her. I just saw that poster and I thought oh she looks familiar, but I couldn't pin point why. Her face is not even that sharp o.o Talk about photoshoping...
Shin Min Ah  plays Gumiho and she only wears this dress. At some point I thought he would never buy her clothes and she would just wear this forever...Then I thought how funny that the producers would let her wear something so fitted and up-to-date as her go-to-dress for 500 years.  She only wears dresses throughout 16 episodes, they're all similar in style and are light colored to show her innocence. Actually this drama is pretty well written in that there were a number of good metaphors...it doesn't go downhill till around episode 13-14 (I heard they changed the ending?) and that's quite rare.

And she also started out barefoot, but in a short while (how?) ended up with nude flats. Since then she wore a lot of ballerina flats and one pair of white lace up boots paired with white socks (like a little girl). Very cute.
Now the main girl actually just wears a lot of plain 60's style mini dresses (London dress trend) that tend to be flow-y and "light". Combined with her long hair creates an angelic effect at first, and later a "good girl" image that Asians have always preferred.   There was only one scene where she wore something different, and that was a special moment in which she wore a high-waisted pencil skirt (with heels!).
Her lover rival wears a lot of mini dresses too, but with more of an edge as they are all sleek and the shoulders are padded for a "stronger" effect (they are like opposites).
Love her bag, notice the externally padded trench coat and the flow y dress!
Other characters wear pretty clothes too!

And while the main guy is not my favorite in terms of looks, I think he is a good actor. Not too crazy about his albums either though...I think he's better at acting than Rain, but Rain gives off a better feeling overall....

The main actress I've always found pretty, though I'm not entirely sure why. I don't think I could explain it, it's just that when she plays cute and cuddly in dramas instead of a gag reflex I go awww, which normally only happens when I see babies or toddlers. So that's how I feel about her. She has evidently touched all of Korea based on this story about how every girl wants to be Shin Min Ah. I can't  blame them, I find her "Woong-a!" calls super cute! ^_______^

Highly recommended! :)

What I'm eyeing at Forever 21...

Most of the things listed here I seriously am considering buying, so the prices are lower than average (because I hate buying anything over $15 from Forever 21, most of the time their quality is not worth it). The reason I'm only considering is because I want to go to the larger Forever 21 near me and try them all on!
There studded flats go for about $15 and I like how they're only on specific places (versus all over) but I wonder if the studs would fall off...

This pair does have studs all over it but it is more feminine and the studs look more like little pearls.

I've been looking for a pair of black sandals  as I lack them. Somehow in my mind sandals = summer = white. Thus I have more than enough white sandals. --' These are really cheap at about $8

I think this would be a great counter to the romper (which I don't like). It looks like it could be a romper but it's just a simple dress. At $11 it is worth it.

If you're like me, you've wanted a high waisted skirt that wasn't too long and didn't make you look short. This is only accomplished with long legs and 4" heels but oh well. Can't do better than $16, right?

Or if that one was too long, then this would be a good neutral color. It's like bronze or something and sells for $23. There's also a pleated version for about $20.

Looks like the perfect sheer top to go with your pants, jeans, skirts, etc. At $6 I can't be lying.

I don't remember if I ranted about this before, but I avoid stripes, and if you need to ask why just look at the model in the picture (where is her waist? not that she doesn't have one but it looks like she doesn't). However I like the details in front, so if I could just touch the material then maybe I would agree to spend $11 on it.

So actually I have at least two long black tunics but this one is sleeveless (point 1) and it has cute bows (point 2). On the other hand, I don't like revealing my back because my skin is not even there. For $16, would you buy it?

This is a strong  YES for me. I think I'll go and hunt it down. It's gray (love gray), it has longer sleeves (very flattering) and scrunched sleeves (shape!). For $7 how can I resist? Oh and I think it comes in different colors too.

This color block dress is only $11 but I would have to see what blue looks like with my skintone.

So what do you think of my picks? Hate them? Love them? Any suggestions for me? Do keep in mind that I'm in "work mode" now so I think of clothes that I perhaps might be able to wear to work as well. Don't want to have to have two wardrobes...

My Spring Lookbook

So I know most of you have already seen Spring runway shows, but I'm the type of person who can only focus on the ima and therefore can't think as far ahead as two seasons later.  Therefore I looked at Spring just now as I'm considering putting away my winter clothes (I have spring break, it seems like the appropriate thing to do), and I won't look at fall until after August.

I'm not very good at explaining why I choose things, so don't ask about my weird combinations, I tried too hard and really should've stuck to putting all designs from one show together instead of separating them like this...

Black with NO "splash of color"
Left: Luella, Karl Lagerfeld x2, Chanel x2
Chanel x2, Givenchy, Miu Miu, Chanel
Karl Lagerfeld, Dolce & Gabbana x2, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy

Clearly black is very "in" every season, I read that the reason for this is the poor economy. Major designers want to ensure that they will have enough sales so they've designed "staple pieces" that will outlast the season. What does this mean for me? I get to continue wearing black all summer and no one can complain that I'm not springy/summery enough!

And yes, I can still wear pants! Yay for high-waists!
Chanel, Miu Miu, Luella, Chanel x2
Beige coats/trenches....
Burberry x4, Erin Fetherston
Burberry's still the best for trench coats, or any coat for that matter, but looking at the rest of their collection I felt they were lazy. Why? Because every single outfit was belted! I got frustrated looking at all the non-matching military belt.

The Neutral dress...
Erin Fetherston, Luella, Moschino, Erin Fetherston, Miu Miu

More casual outfits...
Chanel, Marni x2, Chanel, Jen Kao, Dolce and Gabbana
Here we have lace, sheer, furry sheer, chiffron/silk, and a jean skirt which I think would look far better with less embellishments but I like the cut.

Cocktail dresses I would wear if I had the occasion...
Dennis Basso, Chanel, Dennis Basso, Chanel

Florals/Patterns for Spring
Miu Miu, Luella, Dolce & Gabbana, Luella, Dolce & Gabbana

Pieces/accessories I liked despite the outfit....
Derek Lam, Suwanna Gatekoi, Dennis Basso, MaxMara, Marni
I like the striped blazer, the sheer jacket, the fur "coat", the oxford shoes, and the vertical stripe leggings (the gray dress appears in red).

Outerwear, because I can really take heat...

Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld x2, Dolce & Gabbana
These I failed to categorize...

Sophia Kokosalaki, Erin Fetherston, Moschino, Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel

Few notes on my favorites: I only looked at "ready to wear" (versus couture) because I am not apt at visualization and so I have very little patience with "concepts" that I have to waste brainpower implementing.  I did not look at all rtw runway shows either, because I don't get paid to do this so I briefly looked at unfamiliar brands on style.com and went indepth on the others. The only one I looked at and liked and yet failed to include in this post is Ralph Lauren, because I already looked at it previously and don't feel like reiterating.  Everything noted here are pieces that I would like to wear, to copy, to find copies of so it's not as if I didn't like anything else, it's just I don't see myself wearing the rest.

So. What did you think of Spring rtw?

Marimekko 2010

Having the all too common Unikko print (I've seen fakes running all over town, not to mention Asia) made translucent in the form of a cover-up at the beach or your pool is a start. If only they could take that silk and make even better use of it.

Love the color <3 Love the poofyness of a high-waist skirt <3
